Chelsea made waves in the summer transfer window by signing Kai Havertz, Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech to give themselves a new attacking line.

However, Frank Lampard has struggled to find the right combination over the early part of the season, with Chelsea enjoying mixed results. The Blues have so failed to produce the perfect performance.

As Colin Millar notes, though, this weekend’s Premier League fixture against Burnley at Turf Moor could present Lampard with the chance to field Havertz, Werner and Ziyech as a front three for the first time.

Werner and Ziyech have both shown how they might fit into Chelsea’s tactical masterplan, although Havertz has been a more difficult puzzle to solve so far.

Having missed the Champions League win over Krasnodar during the week, Thiago Silva took part in Chelsea’s training session on Friday.

Ziyech will only get better for Chelsea – Lampard

This suggests the Brazilian centre back could be involved against Burnley at Turf Moor this weekend, with Lampard only revealing that the former AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain player is suffering from “maintenance issues.”

There were some other signs of what Chelsea’s journey to Burnley might hold, with young midfielder Billy Gilmour pictured back in training after a period out through injury. Gilmour will not play any part against Burnley, though.

Lampard also took part in training at Cobham on Friday, proving that he still has the old touch.

Ampadu is on loan at Bramall Lane for the 2020/21 season, but is still highly rated at Stamford Bridge. Wilder has spoken about the 20-year-old’s qualities and how Lampard plans on using him in years to come.

“Definitely,” Wilder replied when asked if Ampadu and Sander Berge had struck up a relationship in Sheffield United’s midfield after the match against Liverpool. “The game has moved on, you have to be so mobile as a professional footballer now,” he added.

“Mobility is a key word that everybody uses because of the mobility and athleticism in other teams, so I believe that was the right formation for us – obviously we changed it when we really had to go for it second half.

“The game does become a bit stretched but when you’ve got the likes of Sander and Ethan, the way they get about the park, it gives you a little bit more security. I thought Ethan’s performance was outstanding. I know the manager at Chelsea sees him as a sitting midfield player,” he went on to say.
