Statehouse anti corruption unit headed by  Col Edith Nakalema has arrested city bailiff  Moses Kirunda on allegations of conniving with a senior Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) soldier Major Nelson Kyatuka to murder businessman, Magidu Mugwanya, at Nateete in Kampala, on July 14 2020.

Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed Kirunda’s arrest and revealed that he was helping police investigators on the matter.

” He has recorded a statement with us on what happened so very soon we shall tell you the next course of action after getting legal advice from the office of the DPP,”he said.

It is reported that Kirunda denied shooting Mugwanya but put it on Maj Kyatuka who has since been charged with one count of murder and two counts of failure to protect war materials in the Makindye-based court-martial which he denied before being remanded to Makindye Military Police Barracks until August 25.

It is said that on the fateful day, Mugwanya parked his car on the roadside after seeing a woman crying, seeking help as she was being dragged by three men into a car at night.

Mugwanya reportedly moved out of his car to help the woman, but one of the three men shot him in the chest, despite identifying himself and raising his hands. He died on the spot and the suspects fled the scene. During police investigations, two pistol cartridges were recovered from the scene of the crime.Mugwanya, 43, was running a home interiors shop in Equatorial Mall in Kampala and a resident of Kibumbiro B zone, Busega parish, in Rubaga division, Kampala.
