The Kabaka of Buganda kingdom Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II has turned 65 on April 13,2020.

However, unlike the previous years, there will not be celebrations due to the ongoing covid-19 lockdown.

In addition, activities to celebrate the king’s birthday including the Kabaka Birthday run which was due on April 5 was also suspended.

In his message about the Kabaka’s birthday, the kingdom premier Peter Mayiga has urged everyone to wear their  Kabaka birthday run kits as a sign of solidarity to the kingdom.

“We had to have the Kabaka’s Birthday Run on 5th April but we didn’t because of Covid-19. When this has passed, we shall have the marathon. Those who had bought kits or have old kits should put them on today,” he said.

He added that, “We thank God for the protection he has given our king and the wisdom bestowed upon him to initiate development programs and achieve them for the 27 years he has reigned as the king of Buganda.”

Mr Mayiga further urged everyone to pray for the Kabaka, kingdom of Buganda and the country at large.

“Yesterday the Archbishop of Kampala offered special prayers for the Kabaka. Other religious leaders have offered prayers as well. May God protect you all,” he said.

Kyaddondo East legislator Robert Kyagulanyi through his social media pages noted that, “A very happy birthday to His Royal Majesty Ssabasajja Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, the Kabaka of Buganda. Today we cannot celebrate your 65th birthday like we normally do, but we continue to pray for good health and a long life. Wangaala ayi Beene.”
