Police in Moyo District are investigating an incident where four juveniles were injured by an abandoned explosive at Ariya Village in Moyo Sub-county, Moyo District.

Speaking on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at the Moyo Police Station, Ignatius Dragudu, the North West Nile region police spokesperson, said the incident critically injured 18-year-old Joseph Apina, along with injuries to 3 other individuals: Emmanuel Chaciga, 19, Henry Drani, 14, and Saviour Matedra, 20, all residents of Ariya village.

Preliminary police reports indicate that the victims, who were engaged in sand mining by the roadside, discovered the explosive and accidentally detonated it, causing injuries.

The victims are currently receiving treatment at Moyo Hospital as police investigate to determine the origin of the explosive and how it ended up in the area.

Additionally, police are also working to establish if there are any other unexploded ordnances in the vicinity that could pose a danger to the local population.

Dragudu urged residents to avoid handling unknown objects and to report any suspicious items to the relevant authorities.nexusmedia
