The Deputy Commander Land Force,Maj Gen Francis Takirwa has underscored the importance of discipline, patience, and commitment as essential virtues for soldiers to uphold throughout their military service.

He emphasised that a soldier’s discipline serves as the foundation for fostering positive attitudes and behaviour, not only among peers but also in interactions with superiors and the broader community.

Maj Gen Takirwa made these remarks today at the passing-out ceremony of troops who completed a three-month refresher training at the 4 Infantry Division Training School in Palaro Sub-county, Gulu district. “I am happy with your field performance and drills that you have exhibited during the pass out. I am impressed and satisfied that the skills attained shall be put to good use during the execution of your duties,” said Maj Gen Takirwa.

He encouraged the soldiers to adopt financial discipline, highlighting that growing their savings and shares in the UPDF’s Wazalendo SACCO will yield substantial benefits, including increased dividends and tangible profits.

Brig Gen Felix Busizoori, Commander of the 4 Infantry Division, praised the soldiers for demonstrating exceptional discipline, sacrifice, and perseverance throughout their training. He encouraged them to apply the skills they have acquired in their future duties. Additionally, he advised them to plan for their retirement by practising financial discipline, maintaining a healthy lifestyle, and staying physically fit. He also cautioned them against the dangers of excessive social media use and alcohol consumption.

Hon. Opio Christopher Ateker, Chairperson of Gulu LCV, expressed his gratitude to the UPDF for their cooperation and harmonious relationship with the local community. He pledged to facilitate the extension of essential amenities, including electricity and water, to the training facility and school.

Maj Justin Olupot Malinga, Acting Commandant of the training school, stated that the soldiers were equipped with the necessary knowledge, skills, and ideology to command and lead troops in all circumstances. He expressed gratitude to the 4 Infantry Division leadership for their invaluable guidance and unwavering support to the training school and the Palaro community for its perseverance during the field exercises.

Present at the function were Members of Parliament, Brigade Commanders, Senior Officers of the UPDF, and community members.
