In a historic event held on February 5, 2025, at Lira High Court, Eng. Dr. Moses Michael Odongo Okune was officially sworn in as the Paramount Chief (Won Nyaci) of Lango, marking a pivotal moment for the Lango Cultural Institution. His swearing-in followed a ruling by the Court of Appeal in Kampala, which overturned an earlier decision that had barred him from assuming his duties.

The ceremony, attended by clan heads, cultural leaders, and legal dignitaries, underscored the community’s resilience in upholding its traditions despite legal disputes. Presided over by legal counsel Dr. Adams Makmot Kibwanga, along with other legal representatives, the event reaffirmed Odongo Okune’s leadership.

In his acceptance speech, Odongo Okune acknowledged the challenges he faced but called for unity among the people of Lango. “The legal battles have caused division, but it is time to move forward in peace. Forgiveness is key as we focus on building a stronger Lango,” he stated.

Speaker Willy Omodo Omodo officially declared Odongo Okune as the Paramount Chief and announced plans to notify government authorities of the development. He was also re-endorsed as the Speaker of the Lango Cultural Institution during the same meeting.

Following his swearing-in, Odongo Okune unveiled his new cabinet, appointing leaders to key positions, including Prof. Willy Okullu as Prime Minister and Brig. Gen. Bosco Omure as Deputy Prime Minister for Wealth Creation. He emphasized integrity and service, urging his team to work towards unity and progress.

The swearing-in of Odongo Okune signifies a new chapter for the Lango people, promising cultural revitalization and development.
