ERA Tours Kiira Motors,Tembo Steels, Pledges Reliable Power Supply For Production

The Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA) team on Monday 21, August 2023, paid a Visit to Kiira Motors and Tembo Steel to check on their needs for electricity consumers.

ERA team led by Dr Sarah Wasagali Kanaabi, the chairperson of the authority appreciated Kiira Motors team led by Prof.Sandy Stevens Tickodri Togboa for leading a new revolution of manufacturing motor vehicles in Uganda.
“Our visit was to appreciate what they are doing but also to work better in planning for their electricity needs. It was beneficial because we picked areas of regulatory substance which is the area of our mandate”, she said.

Dr. Kanaabi added “For now onwards, we shall plan better for their electricity needs given their demand projections”

She further applauded Tembo for adding value by using Ugandan raw materials from rocks up to a final product.
“We are here to appreciate what they are doing to understand Thier processes and understand value addition in relationship to buy Uganda build Uganda” Dr. Kanaabi noted.

While on the visit, Kiira Motors requested more power because they are setting up more car charging centres.

ERA assured them of a stable supply of power and advised them to make sure that Kiira Motors staff working in the electricity sector are certified by ERA so that they operate efficiently to meet their needs.

On the issue of cut power tariffs, Dr Kanaabi revealed that the tactical team is already making a study that comes up with figures that will inform the board to make a decision.

Eng. Ziria Tibalwa Waako, Chief Executive Officer of the Electricity Regulatory Authority revealed that one of the reasons they had to visit Kiira Motors was to understand their power needs but also to share with them various electricity substations so that they put it into consideration when they are setting up charging stations for automobiles.
“We want to be providing reliable power so that we can support electric vehicles”, she said.
