Former Kazo Member of Parliament Gordon Bafaki has perished in a night accident on Kampala Northern Bypass, the Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa has confirmed.

Bafaki, 48, perished at around 3:00am on Wednesday morning along the Northern bypass in Kampala.

“I am saddened to learn of the death of former member of Parliament for Kazo Hon. Gordon Bafaki who perished in an accident along the Northern Bypass last night,” Deputy Speaker wrote.

Tayebwa described Bafaki as “an assertive colleague who pushed for the interests of his people and country.”

Bafaki, who lost his MP seat to Dan Kimosho in the 2021 elections, was returning from Kiruhura district where he was a member of the organizing committee for Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s ‘homecoming celebrations’.

The death has stunned Kazo district considering that the former MP yesterday appeared on Kazo FM to mobilize people to attend the homecoming event.

“I want to urge the young people to embrace Muhoozi because he is defending our generational interests,” said Bafaki while appearing on radio yesterday.

Muhoozi said he was unable to attend the event as he had to “concentrate on regional issues.”

Bafaki sponsored the Kazo Football Team which won the MK ‘homecoming’ Cup.

The cause of the road accident remains unclear.

However, the Northern by-pass has lately claimed many lives due to poor lighting of the road.

Born on November 9, 1976, Gordon Tumwiine Bafaki was a politician, businessman and a professional classroom teacher.

He replaced former works Minister John Nasasira as Kazo MP in the 2016 elections.

Bafaki attended Ntambazi primary school in Kazo before joining Kanoni Secondary School for his O’Level education.

The departed politician had his A-level at Standard High School Zzana and Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Makerere University
