Former Inspector General of Police, Gen Kale Kayihura has this Sunday morning taken part in a 16-km run in celebration of the Ugandan athletes who won medals in the Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.

“This morning, Sunday 8th August. 2021, my staff and I ran a 16-km road run in our beautiful, undulating Katebe, Kashagama to celebrate and honour our heroes of the Tokyo Olympics, and the glory they gave brought to our country, Uganda.”

World record holder Joshua Cheptegei on Friday took the gold in the gruelling men’s 5000m final at the Tokyo Olympic Stadium, finishing ahead of Mohammed Ahmed of Canada, who took the silver, and Paul Chelimo of the United States who scooped the bronze.

Cheptegei, with a time of 12 minutes, 58.15, became the first Ugandan to win the event as he bagged the Olympic gold that has eluded him for so long.

Kayihura said he thanked the Ugandan team for “fulfilling beyond my wildest dreams their pledge in Kapchorwa after I challenged them that one day, we must share the Olympics gold and other medals with the legendary Kenyan athletes across the border. It is sometime back, but I am sure they still remember.”

In 2014, Kayihura reported that he followed the advice given by the President to recruit athletes in the Police Force, the reason the country is receiving better results.
