The Chief of Defence Forces of the Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF), General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, returned to Kampala on Tuesday afternoon following an official visit to Kigali, where he met with Rwandan President Paul Kagame, who was sworn in for his fourth term on Sunday.

General Kainerugaba, who is also the Senior Presidential Advisor on Special Operations, arrived in Kigali on Saturday ahead of the swearing-in ceremony. He was received by his Rwandan counterpart, General Mubarakh Muganga, Chief of Defence Staff of the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF).

The CDF’s delegation included Major General James Birungi, Chief of Defence Intelligence and Security; Brigadier General Richard Karemire, who heads the UPDF’s department of formal education, sports, and culture; Alexander Akandwanaho; and businessman Andrew Mwenda.

On Monday, General Kainerugaba and his military delegation visited the RDF headquarters in Kigali, where they discussed bilateral and regional security matters with General Muganga.

Later that evening, General Muganga hosted a dinner for the UPDF delegation at the Kigali Convention Centre. General Birungi represented General Muhoozi Kainerugaba at the dinner.
