The UPDF 3rd Infantry Division Commander, Major General Don Nabasa, has asked elders in Karamojong to discourage youths (Karachunas) from engaging in criminal activities.

Gen. Nabasa was on Wednesday, September 27th, 2023, addressing the elders at a peace meeting held at Kaithin Village, Loputuk Sub County, Matheniko County, Moroto District.

Nabasa urged elders to mobilize youths to embrace and do away with criminality.

“If you come out today and surrender your weapon, you will be a free person and a potential beneficiary of government programmes. The alternative means of livelihood for the Karachunas, who once lived in the wilderness and handed over firearms voluntarily to security is being planned,” said Nabasa.

Gen. Nabasa implored the locals to cooperate with security forces by providing timely information about criminals so as to isolate them from society because it leads to insecurity and the loss of lives and livestock.

UPDF has continued with an operation to disarm suspected Karamojong cattle rustlers.
