Victoria University has offered 30 fully-funded scholarships to the Next Media staff and viewers.

This was revealed shortly after the University Kampala Vice-Chancellor Assoc Prof Krishna N. Sharma visited the Kamwokya based media center.

We’ve learnt that five of these scholarships will be given to the viewers whereas 25 are for the employees of Next Media.

Joseph Kigozi the Chief Strategy Officer Next Media Services applauded the partnership between the two and thus said “this partnership means a lot because we believe Victoria University has done a tremendous job in making sure young people access quality education at an affordable rate. When it comes to education, Victoria University is our partner.

In his remarks, the University Kampala Vice-Chancellor Prof Krishna N. Sharma on why they chose Next Media Services for the scholarships said, “Next Media has always been our go-to place for credible news. We need to shape today’s journalists by providing them with new-age responsible journalism skills. We are starting with the Journalism degree but have a wide range of programs. We as well have partial scholarships available,” said Sharma.

Victoria University Uganda (VUU), also known as Victoria University Kampala, is a university in Uganda, accredited by the Uganda National Council for Higher Education (UNCHE). It offers short, professional, diploma, undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

In September 2013, VUU was purchased for an undisclosed sum by Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia, ranked the wealthiest individual in East Africa, by Forbes magazine in 2012. VUU then became a member of the Ruparelia Group.

Its campus relocated to Eagen Mansions, at 1-13 Jinja Road, in Kampala’s central business district, which was renamed “Victoria Towers”.
