The victim told police the attackers ordered him to stop praising President Museveni. He was admitted to Mbale General Clinic and later discharged on Tuesday evening. The district NRM party chairman, Mahamood Masaba, told press in Mbale town that the victim is not a supporter of the party. “We have confirmed that he is not our supporter. We do not have any supporter or leader of NRM party, who was beaten,” Masaba is quoted as saying. He said the victim is not a resident of Mbale District. According to police, Kitoogo hails from Kyaggwe in Lwengo district. Mbale Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Sulaimani Barassa Ogajjo, told press that Kitoogo fabricated the incident in order to attract President Museveni’s attention. “I believe it was a fake deal. He wanted to get money from government after claiming he was attacked,” Barassa noted. He said the masquerader would be taken to Chief of Military Intelligence for further investigations.
