Kazo District Woman Member of Parliament, Hon. Jennifer Muheesi, has extended warm Eid Mubarak wishes to the Muslim community, urging them to uphold the values of unity, discipline, and economic empowerment beyond Ramadan.

“May all our devotion and prayers be accepted and answered by Allah. Eid Mubarak!” she said in her message to the faithful, celebrating the successful completion of the holy month of fasting.

Hon. Muheesi emphasized the importance of maintaining the discipline and spiritual growth gained during Ramadan, calling on Muslims to continue fostering peace, love, and cooperation within their communities.

“We must carry forward the lessons of Ramadan—selflessness, discipline, and generosity—into our daily lives. Our communities will only thrive when we stand together in unity and support one another,” she said.

Push for Economic Empowerment

The legislator also encouraged Muslims to actively engage in government poverty eradication programs, stressing that economic empowerment is key to transforming households.

“I urge all my Muslim brothers and sisters to take advantage of the available government programs designed to uplift households from poverty. Whether it’s the Parish Development Model, Emyooga, or other economic initiatives, let’s not be left behind. We must work together to kick poverty out of our homes,” she said.

Hon. Muheesi further called upon all Kazo residents to take full advantage of the ongoing rainy season to engage in productive agriculture, highlighting its potential to improve food security and household income.

“This is the time to prepare our gardens and plant food and cash crops. I encourage farmers to embrace high-value crops like coffee, maize, beans, and vegetables to ensure both food security and income generation. Through modern farming practices such as soil conservation and proper post-harvest handling, we can increase productivity and uplift our livelihoods,” she noted.

Freedom of Worship in Uganda

Hon. Muheesi also took the opportunity to hail President Yoweri Museveni for upholding freedom of religion in Uganda, allowing people of all faiths to worship without restriction.

“In Uganda, everyone is free to pray from wherever they choose, without fear or intimidation. This religious harmony is something we should treasure and protect,” she added.

Zakah Initiative Benefits Kazo Muslims

Earlier this month, Hon. Muheesi’s office facilitated a Zakah registration exercise that saw over 200 Muslims, including 110 households, registered for the Islamic almsgiving obligation. For many, it was their first time accessing the support. The initiative was widely praised by community members, with some referring to Muheesi as “nabi” (angel) for her efforts in uplifting the Muslim community.

She assured Muslims in Kazo that her commitment to their well-being remains strong, pledging to continue advocating for better living conditions, access to education, and economic empowerment programs.
