Works and Transport Minister Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala’s vehicle H4DF 2138 was riddled with bullets on June 1, 2021, in Kisaasi, a suburb of Kampala in an attack that claimed the life of his daughter Brenda Nantongo and driver Haruna Kayondo. Gen Katumba survived with bullet wounds.

Ever since the incident, the soft-spoken minister had never spoken on the incident until Thursday, July 1 when Maj. Gen. Paul Lokech, the Deputy Inspector General of Police revealed that the joint security team had arrested Kamada Walusimbi alias Mudinka, Siriman Kisambira alias Mukwasi, Mustafa Kawawa Ramadan alias Amin, and Muhammad Kagugube alias Bafumoya as the main suspects who were behind the attack on Gen. Katumba in Kisota.

“We have now established that the overall coordinator of these domestic terror cells is Sheikh Abudin Hubaida Taheel Bukenya, an ex-ADF combatant who was given amnesty but has violated it.  He is reactivating the domestic terror cells and is the brain behind the recruitment of assailants like Kagugube and Lubwama,” he said.

After the arrest, Gen. Wamala has finally broken silence and said he is still carefully observing what is going on, “I am told that they have arrested them. If it’s true that they are the ones, let me wait for a court conviction. But for me as a victim, I am still traumatized by whatever I went through,” the soft-spoken Katumba said.

He added that he will be eagerly waiting to hear and know the motive of these attackers and who sent them.

It should be noted that some suspects who included Yusuf Nyanzi and Hussein Sserubula were charged with murder and attempted murder before Nakawa Chief Magistrate’s Court and remanded to Kitalya.
