Uganda National Roads Authority [UNRA] Tuesday temporarily re-opened the Kazinga Channel bridge to traffic after close to a month of closure.

“Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) wishes to inform the general public that the bridge deck for Kazinga Channel Bridge on Ishaka—Katunguru—Kasese road has been temporarily fixed and opened to traffic,” the roads authority said.

The bridge was closed off to traffic last month to make some repairs.

UNRA says the temporary remedy is able to allow all vehicles to use the bridge at the moment “as we finalise an emergency procurement for short term works and as well plan for permanent works”.

UNRA advised motorists especially of heavy trucks and buses to slow down and not exceed speed limit of 20km/h on the bridge.

“We appreciate your patience during the execution of remedial works.”

The 32 kilometer Kazinga Channel links Lake Edward and Lake George and is a dominant feature of Queen Elizabeth National Park which attracts several tourists.edge
