Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Charles Kataratambi, a longtime senior officer in the Uganda Police Force, has died after battling diabetes for several months. He passed away at Nakasero Hospital where he had been admitted for specialized care.

Kataratambi’s health reportedly deteriorated shortly after President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni appointed him Director of Human Rights and Legal Services at Police Headquarters in Naguru. Sources say he was later flown to Germany for specialized treatment before returning to Uganda for home-based care, where his condition continued to worsen.

Kataratambi was a well-known figure in the force, rising steadily through the ranks over nearly three decades of service. He previously headed the Police Land Protection Unit, where he gained national attention for spearheading operations against illegal land evictions and fraud. He was later promoted to Commissioner of Police and eventually Assistant Inspector General of Police, one of the highest ranks in the force.

However, his career was not without controversy. During his tenure at the Land Protection Unit, Kataratambi

He was later transferred to the Directorate of Human Rights and Legal Services, a move some interpreted as both a promotion and a strategic redeployment amid growing public scrutiny.

Funeral arrangements for AIGP Kataratambi are expected to be announced by the Uganda Police Force in the coming days.

More details to follow.
