Tooro Kingdom has announced the death of His Majesty Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, in a major loss to the royal family, the people of Tooro and Uganda.

The Omukama died at approximately 10:00 p.m. on Friday, according to an announcement by Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire Akiiki, the Prime Minister of Tooro Kingdom.
“It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart that I announce the passing of His Majesty the Omukama of Tooro, King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV,” the Prime Minister said.

The announcement called on the people of Tooro to remain united, calm and prayerful during the period of mourning.
The Prime Minister described the King’s death as an “immeasurable loss” to the Royal Family, the Tooro Kingdom and the nation of Uganda.
“Omukama Atulize. Enkuba Etutire,” the statement said, in a tribute to the late monarch.

The Kingdom also sought to reassure the public about the continuity of the institution of the monarchy, saying the Crown remains assured.

According to the statement, the late King leaves behind a Prince who will serve as his heir, although his identity will be formally revealed at an appropriate time in accordance with the traditions and customs of Tooro Kingdom.

The Kingdom said a detailed official statement will be issued later, providing further information about the King’s death, funeral arrangements and the mourning period.

King Oyo, who became Omukama of Tooro as a child, was one of Uganda’s most prominent traditional leaders and had occupied the throne for decades.

His death is expected to trigger a period of mourning across Tooro, with tributes likely to come from the Royal Family, cultural institutions, government leaders and members of the public.

The Prime Minister concluded the announcement with a prayer for the late monarch:
“May His Majesty the King rest in eternal peace.”
