Just In: President Museveni Promotes Five UPDF Division Commanders

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the Commander-in-Chief of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), has officially confirmed the promotion of five Division Commanders from the rank of Brigadier General to Acting Major General. This announcement was conveyed through the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, and confirmed by Brigadier General Felix Kulayigye, the Director of Defence and Public Information.

The promoted officers had been serving as Division Commanders in an acting capacity, awaiting formal confirmation. Brigadier General Kulayigye expressed the UPDF’s pride in its officers and congratulated the newly promoted generals, stating, “We congratulate the newly promoted general officers and wish them success in their assigned responsibilities.”

Promoted Officers

1. Brigadier General Stephen Mugerwa has been confirmed as Acting Major General and Commander of the 1st Infantry Division. His leadership and operational skills have been instrumental in maintaining stability and ensuring the security of his division’s area of responsibility.

2. Brigadier General Paul Muhanguzi has risen to Acting Major General and will continue leading the 2nd Infantry Division. Known for his dedication and strategic expertise, Muhanguzi has been pivotal in enhancing the division’s operational readiness.

3. Brigadier General Felix Busizori has been promoted to Acting Major General, taking command of the 4th Infantry Division. Busizori has been commended for his commitment to the welfare of troops and effective execution of military strategies.

4. Brigadier General Keith Katungi is now Acting Major General and Commander of the 5th Infantry Division. Renowned for his innovative leadership, Katungi has consistently delivered results in both combat operations and peacetime engagements.

These promotions underscore the UPDF’s commitment to recognizing excellence and enhancing leadership within its ranks. The officers will play key roles in ensuring the defense and stability of Uganda, amidst the evolving security challenges in the region.

The UPDF leadership believes these promotions will strengthen its operational capacity and inspire the younger officers. As these generals assume their confirmed roles, they bring a wealth of experience and commitment to safeguarding Uganda’s sovereignty and security.
