Prince Edward Rukiidi Kijanangoma has been declared the new King of Tooro following the death of Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV.
The announcement was made by members of the Babiito royal clan at Karuziika Palace on Wednesday evening, according to information from the royal gathering.
Kijanangoma takes over the Tooro throne following the death of King Oyo, who passed away after an illness.
The succession follows Tooro’s traditional process through which members of the Babiito royal clan identify and proclaim the next Omukama.
The development comes as Tooro continues preparations for the final rites and burial of the late King Oyo.
Earlier reports on the succession process indicated that members of the royal family and clan leadership would play a central role in determining Oyo’s successor.
It has been also reported that traditional succession rituals are expected to provide important indications of the identity of the new king.
