Ugandan comedian Yokaana Mbuuse, popularly known as Kapere Lufotose, has died at a hospital in Buddo, bringing to an end the life of one of the country’s recognisable comedy personalities.
His death was announced by media personality and content creator Kasuku, who confirmed the development in a social media post.
“Comedian Kapere is gone. He has passed on at a hospital in Buddo,” Kasuku announced.
Details surrounding his illness and the circumstances of his death had not immediately been established by press time.
Kapere rose to prominence through the Amarula Family, one of Uganda’s pioneering comedy groups, which brought together celebrated entertainers including Allan Mujuni, popularly known as Amooti Omubalanguzi, and the late Paddy Ssali, better known as Paddy Bitama.
He became particularly popular for his distinctive appearance, humorous expressions and natural comic talent, which made him a favourite among audiences.
In a 2013 interview with Daily Monitor, Kapere revealed that his journey into comedy began after meeting Amooti at Jenina’s Bar.
He had previously struggled with a hernia, which forced him to abandon school.
His first performance featured a comedy sketch titled Lufotoose, which quickly attracted attention and established his stage identity.
Kapere also featured in the group’s popular comedy productions, including Side Mirror, which entertained television audiences and helped popularise Ugandan comedy.
Beyond group performances, he appeared in music videos, including Bobi Wine’s Mr Money.
His contribution to Uganda’s entertainment industry will be remembered by comedy lovers.
May his soul rest in eternal peace.
