Justice Julia Sebutinde Gets Second Term At International Court

International Court of Justice (ICJ) has elected Justice Julia Sebutinde for a second term.

On Thursday got Justice Sebutinde 139 votes in the second round, defeating Rwanda which got 87 votes and Nigeria 31.

She is the first African woman to sit on the World Court since 2012.

“Delighted to announce the election of Justice Julia Sebutinde of Uganda to the International Court of Justice for a second term,” said Adobia Ayebare, Uganda’s permanent representative to the United Nations.

“I was privileged for leading the campaign team in New York. I thank my Boss Hon. Sam Kutesa, PS Mugoya and the team at MOFA.”

“Congratulations Justice Sebutinde your an excellent candidate and a big Sister. I am privileged for having led your campaign twice . a record at the UN. I thank my team at the Mission for their support. I also Congratulate other candidates from Japan, Germany, China and Slovakia.”

Julia Sebutinde is a Ugandan judge on International Court of Justice.

She is also Chancellor of Muteesa I Royal University; a University owned by Buganda Kingdom.

She has been a Judge on ICJ since March 2012. (EU)
