Lakwena War Victims Petition Kadaga Demanding 300Bn Govt Compasation

A total of 2330 victims and survivors of the Alice Lakwena war, from eastern Uganda are demanding a compensation of shs 5,000,000 each for fighting on the side of government to kick out the Lakwena war which ravaged the region between 1985-1987, leading to loss of lives and property.

In a petition presented to the Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga on Monday , survivors under ‘Lakwena Victims Association’ say they are aggrieved that payment of a pledge madd by President Yoweri Museveni in 2016 to compensate each of the victims shs 5,000,000 has overly delayed without any signs of ever being effected.

“While the President was in Luuka district at Busiro primary school in 2016, he pledged that Lakwena war victims from Teso, Busoga& Bukedi be sorted out within 40 days” said the chairperson of “Lakwena Victims Association” Swaibu Igulu adding that “he indeed directed the Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda to handle the matter”
