President Yoweri Museveni has directed the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) to involve the police and the Wananchi in the hunt for criminal elements of the Allied Democratic Force (rebels) terrorizing Ugandans.

The President, who is also the Commander-in-Chief of the UPDF, said these are no longer military problems; they are police, popular vigilance, and anti-terrorism efforts.

The President’s directives were contained in a statement posted on his X platform, where he announced that the UPDF gunships attacked a big camp of these criminals, 60 km from the Ntoroko border, in the early hours of Saturday, October 21, 2023.

He emphasized that the attack was devastating because it was a clear target and that the reconnaissance plane was monitoring from the air.
Last week, suspected ADF rebels killed three people, including two foreign tourists, in a world-famous Ugandan national park, police said Tuesday, blaming the attack on a notorious militia group.

The trio were driving through the Queen Elizabeth National Park when they came under attack from the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebel group.

Queen Elizabeth shares a border with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and its famous Virunga National Park, a habitat for rare mountain gorillas, and where armed groups are believed to operate.
