People Power presidential aspirant Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine has challenged President Museveni to emulate his Kenyan counterpart Uhuru Kenyatta who is set on retiring from politics at the age of 60.

Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta, politician, businessman, and the fourth and current President of the Republic of Kenya, made the revelation while being interviewed Uhuru TV.

Uhuru served as Member of Parliament for Gatundu South from 2002 to 2013 and is a member and the party leader of the Jubilee Party of Kenya.

“I think if I was to do something differently today, I would be focused at an early age and retire much earlier,” Kenyatta noted.

Kenyatta said he sees some of his colleagues at a later age still struggling to stay in power.

“I want to retire at 60 and go and enjoy my grandchildren. I want to enjoy my life.”

He added: “I don’t want to be struggling at 75 and still calling myself a leader.”

Born October 26, 1961 in Nairobi Kenya, Kenyatta is now 58 years old.

Succession

According to the East African, as Kenya heads for 2022 general elections, the president is keeping everybody guessing on his preferred successor.

The report said the ruling Jubilee Party is likely to split during the party’s grassroots elections in March, between those supporting President Kenyatta and supporters of his deputy William Ruto.

President Kenyatta is currently balancing managing his succession through his two-year working relations with former opposition leader Raila Odinga, and his legacy through the Big Four Agenda public projects for creation of job opportunities for the youth through the expansion of manufacturing sector, affordable housing, universal healthcare and food security.

Bobi Wine and his team

For the March elections, Ruto is already wooing President Kenyatta’s central Kenya region to forge ahead of his would-be opponents.

Bobi Wine impressed

Picking on the message, Bobi Wine who is up against Museveni in 2021 general elections, said:

“President Kenyatta gives some good insight on why leaders must serve, retire and let the next generation shape the destiny of their nations.”

He added: “As long as we have leaders who think that the nation begins and ends with them, that becomes a recipe for many unpleasant things.”

He is yet to issue a new schedule of consultations after prior meetings were blocked by police amid live bullets and teargas.e.d.g.e.
