Kampala International School Uganda (KISU) a multinational international curriculum-based school in Bukoto on Monday (today) resumed physical classes for all learners as schools reopened countrywide after 22 months of closure due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The pupils were visibly full of vigour; while others  were catching up with friends.

KISU management assured parents that the school reopening exercise has been accompanied by full observance and implementation of covid-19 Standard Operating Procedures (SoPs) and health measures as directed by the government.

Addressing pupils in a Covid Awareness assembly on Tuesday, Dr. Terry Garbett, a Director at KISU emphasized the importance of students adhering to SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) like; wearing a mask at all times, social distancing in class & consistently washing their hands while on campus, in order to safeguard themselves against the deadly virus.

He also advised the pupils that recreational activities such as swimming, and the #KISULegoLab will soon reopen for learners to freshen their minds after 2 years of being closed down.

Mr. Terry said KISU will be following and implementing all government reopening guidelines and measures. These include putting up health and safety posters in schools, requiring masks for all pupils and staff, enhanced cleaning, ensuring social distancing, and improving handwashing facilities.

KISU currently accommodates about 400 students representing 46 nationalities. State-of-the-art facilities include four science labs, three computer labs, three music rooms, three performance areas, an indoor sports hall, outdoor basketball court, 25 metre eight lane competition swimming pool, two libraries, smart boards in most classrooms and a five acre playing field.

From the school gate to the compound and the classrooms, standard operating procedures (SOPs) were being observed.

“Parents intending to enroll their children at the school have been advised to call the school and book to enable the school plan and adhere to the SOPs and health guidelines,” one of the staff from the admissions office said.

All students from Year 3 (7 years old) upwards spend time on outdoor education trips, staying overnight for varying lengths of time; each student swims once a week and takes part in all activities.

KISU is a subsidiary of the Ruparelia Group’s education arm established in 1993 and to date, the school boasts of an enrollment figure of over 400 students from over 60 nationalities according to 2020-21 admission statistics.

While schools were closed, there have been some lessons via online,  radio, TV, and newspapers and some schools have provided physical learning materials to some of their students.
