Fresh political tension has emerged following the reported arrest of Justine Nameere Nsubuga by military operatives, only hours after she was sworn in as Masaka City Woman MP for the 2026–2031 parliamentary term.

According to sources, heavily armed security personnel travelling in a military vehicle reportedly picked up Nameere from Tropic Inn on Friday night and drove her to an undisclosed location.

By press time, neither the Uganda People’s Defence Forces nor the police had released an official statement regarding her arrest or confirmed her whereabouts.

The reported detention followed a day of heightened political drama in which Nameere publicly defended Speaker Anita Annet Among amid growing divisions over the upcoming Speakership contest.

Her remarks came despite mounting pressure from leaders within the Patriotic League of Uganda, where internal disagreements have intensified over who should lead the next Parliament.

The controversy escalated after PLU distanced itself from both Among and Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa. The political direction shifted further when Chief of Defence Forces Muhoozi Kainerugaba publicly endorsed Defence Minister Jacob Oboth Oboth for the Speaker position.

Earlier in the day, Gen. Muhoozi posted strongly worded messages on social media, warning unnamed individuals against challenging his authority. While he did not directly mention Nameere, political observers interpreted the remarks as being linked to the unfolding disagreement.

The fallout appears to have deepened after Nameere openly criticised PLU Secretary General Daudi Kabanda and questioned his conduct in relation to recent political disputes.

Her comments are said to have widened cracks within the ruling establishment, particularly after she insisted that members of the ruling party remained committed to supporting Among in line with earlier recommendations by the party’s top decision-making organs.

Nameere’s reported detention is expected to further intensify the already heated political contest surrounding the Speakership race, a battle increasingly seen as a test of influence among powerful figures within Uganda’s political and security circles.
