MPs Grill Min.Mwesige,Gen.Muhoozi on Defence Budget Irregularities

The Minister of Defence and Veterans Affairs Hon Adolf Mwesige has opened the two-day Annual retreat for Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs (MODVA) leaders and Members of Parliament on the Defence and Internal Affairs Committee at Speke Resort Munyonyo.

The retreat is aimed at reviewing the performance of the Defence and Veteran Affairs ministry in finance, planning, policy, budgeting, human resource development, and welfare, among other areas.

Hon Mwesige applauded Members of Parliament for working together with the Defence ministry to accomplish the different tasks in the Financial Year (FY) 2018/19. He said the interface provides an opportunity to reflect on the achievements and challenges of the Defence ministry in the year ending 2018/19 and coin mechanisms that can be followed to fill the gaps.
“Cooperation with the Defence Ministry ensures that security prevails throughout the country for socio-economic development,” he noted.

Mwesige added that the presence of Members of Parliament at this year’s interface is a clear manifestation that there is cooperation between the three arms of the state; the executive, legislature and judiciary on matters of defence and security, which are very important to achieve prosperity and transformation in the country.

The chairperson for Defence and Internal affairs committee in Parliament Hon Doreen Amule and Woman MP representing Amolatar District lauded UPDF for its good work and great sacrifice in providing peace and security.

She said the interface will help in projecting the future by correctly answering questions concerning the achievements and challenges of the Defence ministry, adding that it will also help in identifying strategies for better performance.

The interface also covered the overall security situation in the country, recent troop recruitments and trainings as well as AMISOM operations, among others.

The opening ceremony was also attended by the Minister of State for Defence and Veteran affairs In charge of General Duties Hon Col(Rtd) Charles Okello Engola, Minister of State for Defence In Charge of Veteran Affairs Hon Lt Col(Rtd) Bright Rwamirama, Mrs. Edith Buturo who represented the Permanent Secretary, Chief of Defence Forces Gen David Muhoozi, Service Commanders among others.
