Uganda’s Independence Day celebrations took on a campus flavour at Fundas Grounds opposite Akamwesi Hostel on Friday, October 9, as Club Pilsener and Fundas Promotions brought the Club Canvas Campus Takeover to MUBS.

Students gathered for an evening of music and dance, with the national holiday providing the occasion for a campus bash.

Dance groups featured in the opening stretch of the night, giving the performers an early opportunity to set the mood.

Their routines introduced an entertainment experience that brought together DJs and MCs, alongside a special guest whose appearance drew particular excitement from the students.

DJ Aloysious and DJ Tus were among the acts behind the decks, while MC Maxy helped guide the evening and engage the audience.

Together, they formed part of an experience built around the music and personalities that make campus parties a familiar fixture of student social life.

The special appearance came from socialite Shakib Cham, who has recently ventured into DJing, and his presence brought an additional point of interest to the MUBS takeover.

For students, seeing a familiar public personality step into a different entertainment role added to the excitement of the Independence Day gathering.

The occasion gave Club Pilsener a setting in which to reconnect with its original core audience of adult consumers aged mainly 18 to 25.

Rather than relying only on visibility at major entertainment events, the campus takeovers bring the brand into the places where this audience meets and socialises.

At Fundas Grounds, that connection unfolded through an Independence Day party within the MUBS community.

The takeovers also form part of the wider Club Canvas platform, which brings together music, technology, art and fashion.

Their purpose is to carry that identity into campus environments through immersive experiences, giving each host community its own edition.

Music and performance provided the central expression of that approach at MUBS, with the opening dance acts and Shakib’s appearance adding different personalities to the experience.

MUBS followed earlier campus takeovers at Garden Courts Hostel in Makerere and Bavana Hostel in Kyambogo, where Club Canvas visited on September 25.

The sequence allows the platform to build its campus presence across several communities, with each stop contributing a distinct experience.

The next takeover is scheduled for Muteesa I Royal University on Friday, October 16, 2026. It will extend the campus experience after an Independence Day edition at MUBS.
