The government has once again extended the completion date for the multibillion-shilling International Specialised Hospital of Uganda (ISHU) in Lubowa, with the new target now set for late 2026.

According to Attorney General Kiryowa Kiwanuka, the latest adjustment follows several unforeseen challenges that disrupted the project’s progress, including the global Covid-19 pandemic.

In a letter dated April 17, Mr Kiwanuka noted that both the government and the project developer have agreed on a revised work plan intended to speed up construction and ensure the hospital is completed within the new timeframe.

Initially, the Lubowa hospital was projected to be finished by June 2021, but the deadline has been revised multiple times — first to September 2022, later to 2024, then 2025, and now 2026.

The Attorney General further indicated that all works carried out so far have been verified and certified by relevant authorities, and that payments to the contractor remain consistent with the terms of the project agreement.

The Lubowa project, located along Entebbe Road, is being developed through a public-private partnership (PPP) arrangement and is expected to serve as a regional hub for advanced medical treatment once completed.
