The family of Ambassador Richard and Grace Kabonero is mourning the untimely death of their beloved son, Robert “Bobby” Kabonero, who passed away on Friday, May 9, 2025, in Nairobi, Kenya.

Bobby, 25, succumbed to complications following a self-inflicted wound at the family’s residence in Luzira. The incident occurred on the evening of May 3, as the family gathered to celebrate the birthday of his uncle, renowned businessman Bob Kabonero.

The family had just returned from a trip to Dubai for the same occasion.

Following the incident, Bobby was initially treated at International Hospital Kampala (IHK) and later airlifted to Aga Khan University Hospital in Nairobi for further medical intervention. Though he had been discharged, his condition remained delicate, and plans were underway to fly him to the United States for specialized care when he sadly passed away.

Born and raised in the United States, Bobby was a brilliant young man who recently returned to Uganda after completing his studies. He graduated at the top of his class with a degree in Economics and was widely admired for his intelligence.
