Police in Katwe have carried out an intelligence-led operation within their areas of operation and netted eight (08) suspects that deal in suspected stolen motor cycles from neighbouring countries.

The police have been carrying out operations to crackdown on business people who deal in suspected stolen motor cycles.

According to intelligence sources, the dealers have abandoned dealing in stolen motorcycles from Uganda and shifted to buying stolen motorcycles from Kenya and South Sudan.

The source revealed that suspected stolen motor cycles from neighbouring countries are brought into Uganda using box body trucks with other merchandise.

They are offloaded; the new ones have their registration numbers changed into Ugandan number plates, while the old ones are cut into spare parts.

“In today’s operation, police recovered five (05) motorcycles from Kenya, four (04) motorcycle engines with Kenyan numbers, 19 Kenyan motorcycle log books, eight (08) log books from South Sudan, six (06) motorcycle number plates from Kenya, and four (04) from Uganda,” according to SSP Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson.

The eight (08) suspects are detained at Katwe police station alongside recovered exhibits.
