Police Hunt For UPDF Soldier Over Ntinda Traffic Officer Shooting

A joint team of security is hunting for a UPDF soldier who shot and injured a traffic police officer trying to tow army vehicle that was involved in an accident on wee hours of Sunday morning in Ntinda,a leafy Kampala suburb.

The traffic officer who was involved in the scuffle has been identified as Police Constable Robert Mukebezi, who was seated on the passenger side of a breakdown truck that was towing a green Toyota Prado TX that had knocked a signpost of Kobil fuel station.

The victims were intercepted by soldiers in a UPDF double cabin Pickup near Ntinda traffic lights at around 6am but they turned down military request which culminated into a scuffle and exchange of gun fire.

Later on,Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesman Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed the shooting of a traffic officer by yet to be apprehended UPDF soldier.

“The investigations are ongoing to establish the shooter,” Owoyesigyire said.

UPDF acting Spokesperson Lt Col Ronald Kakurungu revealed the matter is under investigation by both the army and the police.

“The suspect is still on the run but a search for him is underway and very useful clues leading to his arrest have already been obtained,”he said .
