The police in Lugazi are currently investigating the murder of a Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) soldier. The incident occurred on December 31, 2023, and has left the community shocked and alarmed.

The deceased has been identified as Lance Kopolo Robert Nyeba, a UPDF officer attached to the 3rd Division Moroto. Nyeba’s lifeless body was found dumped a short distance from his residence in Nammengo Kiteredde-Kasambya, Lugazi Central division, Buikwe district.

SCP Fred Enanga, the police spokesperson, addressed the media at the police headquarters today, revealing some initial details of the case.

Enanga stated that residents noticed the body and immediately informed the deceased’s aunt, Perusi Logose. She confirmed that Nyeba had been living alone recently following a car accident. During his leave from duty as a driver for a senior army officer, tragedy struck, and he fell victim to this horrific crime.

Upon arriving at the scene, Lugazi police officers discovered a head wound on the deceased, leading them to suspect that he was fatally struck by an unknown assailant using a blunt object.

The attack resulted in severe bleeding, ultimately leading to Nyeba’s untimely demise. Notably, all of his personal belongings were stolen by the attackers. Efforts to use a police sniffer dog to trace the culprits were hindered as the crime scene had already been tampered with.

The deceased’s body has been transported to Kawolo General Hospital, where a postmortem examination will be conducted to uncover further details surrounding the murder. The police force has assured the public that they are actively working on this case and have intensified operations and patrols in Lugazi to ensure enhanced security in the area.

The loss of Lance Kopolo Robert Nyeba has deeply saddened the community and left his colleagues and family devastated. As investigations continue, residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities. The police are determined to identify and apprehend the assailants responsible for this heinous crime.

Anyone with information related to this murder is requested to come forward and assist the police in their efforts to bring justice to the grieving family and ensure the safety of the community.

The police have assured the public that confidentiality will be maintained for those providing useful information.
As the investigation unfolds, the community of Lugazi waits anxiously for answers.

The loss of a dedicated serviceman has reminded everyone of the increasing importance of maintaining a secure and harmonious society.
