Former Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago was reportedly taken from his home in Wakaliga on Monday morning in an operation involving unidentified security personnel, with the circumstances surrounding the incident still unclear.

Details about the reason for his reported arrest, as well as any formal charges, had not been confirmed by authorities at the time of reporting.

According to sources close to Lukwago, he had been expected to appear for a television interview from his Kampala office but later decided to conduct it from his residence.

He was also reportedly preparing legal action involving Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, according to statements attributed to the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF).

Residents in the area, particularly boda boda riders, said they observed security activity as early as 5:00 a.m. Witnesses reported seeing at least two vehicles, including one without visible registration plates, carrying approximately eight individuals dressed in both military-style uniforms and civilian clothing.

Reports indicate that the operatives entered the residence and demanded information about Lukwago’s whereabouts.

A source inside the home at the time claimed that officers issued loud instructions and searched the premises before later taking him away. The source also alleged that communication devices belonging to those present were temporarily confiscated during the operation.

Shortly after the incident, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba posted on social media, stating, “I have captured a FOOL and taken him to the basement!” However, he did not directly identify the person he was referring to, leaving it unclear whether the message related to Lukwago’s reported detention.

The PFF strongly condemned the reported arrest, accusing the authorities of using security forces to suppress political opposition. In a statement shared on X, the party described the action as an abuse of power and an attempt to silence dissenting voices, insisting that intimidation would not deter their political struggle.

As of Monday morning, neither the police nor other security agencies had issued an official statement regarding the reported incident.
