The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), in an intelligence-led operation, have recovered four Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) that were in a rental house in Kwata zone, Komamboga parish, Kawempe division in Kampala.

According to Brig Gen Felix Kulayigye, the UPDF Spokesperson, intelligence was collected from residents and the previously arrested ADF terrorists about suspicious individuals in Komamboga.

“Due to the Wanaichi and intelligence that we have been collecting from those terrorists who have already been arrested and those captured in the DRC, security was directed to the suspicious rented house in Kwata zone, Kawempe division, where they found four improvised explosive devices and a number of pieces of ammunition,” Kulayigye said.

He noted that the mastermind behind the explosive devices and ADF terrorists had already been arrested.

“Regional information gathered from those who we have already arrested, including Kalazi Augustine, arrested in Masaka; Sulaiman Ssubuga, arrested in Busia; and Swale Abubaker, arrested in Zambia, reveals that the terrorist area is commanded by a man who calls himself Punisher Alias Nsubuga Medi, alias Kaluba, who is the mastermind of these terrorist activities that include improvised explosive devices and the assassination of some individuals,“ he said.

Kulayigye said that Nsubuga, connected to the IEDs that were discovered, is part of the ADF terrorist group and is still at large.

“He is believed to be located in the DRC but also sometimes moves to South Africa and other countries. We are tracking him and his accomplices; he will be eliminated or arrested very soon,“ he added.

Kulayigye further noted that security forces are continuing to hunt the remaining series of terrorists still at large in Kampala and Uganda in general.

Kulayigye, however, cautioned landlords against letting strangers into their houses and called for the vigilance of civilians.

“We have always told you, anybody unknown in the area, please report the cases here. People came looking for a house to rent, and somebody gave them one once she received money. The problem in this country you can’t ask, and so people saw people carrying buveras and they entered his house, so once we got intelligence that in this area they were terrorists, we came,” he noted.

According to Kulayigye, vigilance would require that one take an interest in a stranger that has come into the area, adding that if it wasn’t for that, the bombs in question would have exploded on four targets.

Kulayigye further commended civilians for their vigilance and the intelligence teams for their alertness.explorer.
