Kampala businessman Chris Rugari is mourning the tragic and mysterious death of his young son, who reportedly died after falling from the second floor of the family home in Mutungo.

According to sources close to the family, the incident occurred under unclear circumstances. It is alleged that the child, believed to be around three years old, fell from his bedroom on the upper level of the home. He was rushed to a nearby clinic in Kitintale, but doctors declared him dead on arrival.

One of Rugari’s close relatives revealed that the family suspects foul play and believes the incident could be a case of homicide. “The situation raises more questions than answers,” the relative said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

Police from Jinja Road Station have since taken over the investigations and are expected to conduct a thorough postmortem to determine the exact cause of death. Officers have also reportedly asked Chris Rugari’s wife—who was at home at the time of the incident as well as other domestic workers, to provide official statements regarding the events leading up to the tragedy.

Speaking at the vigil, Minister of State for Industry David Bahati urged mourners to remain calm and allow investigators to do their work. “Let us be patient and wait for the postmortem results,” he said.

Unconfirmed reports also suggest that the family may have been experiencing internal tensions, with allegations of a divorce in progress. However, these claims remain speculative as neither Chris Rugari nor his wife has commented publicly on the matter.

Chris Rugari is a well-known businessman who previously operated across South Sudan and Zambia. He was also a familiar face at Route 256 in Kololo during its peak years as a popular nightlife spot.

Efforts to get an official comment from the police were unsuccessful by press time, as officers remained unavailable.

The incident has left many in shock, with both the business community and close friends expressing deep sympathy to the Rugari family during this difficult time.
