The community’s response, particularly the actions of a concerned neighbor who alerted officials underscores the importance of vigilance in looking out for one another, and Malo encouraged the other locals to do the same to the neighbors.

The body of the deceased identified as Chrizesto Mutebi, a soldier with the Reserve Force was discovered on September 10, 2024, in the morning in Kyamayiba village, Mijwala sub-county in Sembabule district.

During an interview with journalists on September 10, 2024, the Parish Internal Security Officer of Lwabana parish, Dalawusi Malo, revealed that he last spoke with Mutebi on September 5, 2024, as he was heading to Buddu in Kyanamukaka for his grandmother’s burial; however, he was shocked when he was told that he was found in his house dead.

Malo added that they discovered Mutebi’s body after one of Mutebi’s neighbors, Donnah Nabayinda, saw many flies coming out from the windows of the house, and there was a foul smell coming out of the house, which prompted her to inform him.

“When Nabayinda smelled the stench reeking from Mutebi’s house, she informed me, and when I came, we called one of Mutebi’s grandchildren; he entered with us in the house, and we found Mutebi’s lifeless body covered in a blanket and smelling,’’ Malo disclosed.

He stated that Mutebi never closed his house, even at night; it was always open, hence why it was easy for them to enter his house and did not break the door.

Malo added that some locals said that Mutebi was seen in a bar on September 6, 2024, and might have died due to excessive drinking of alcohol.

His body was taken for postmortem examination; however, police said that they are going to carry out investigations despite speculations that he might have died due to excessive alcohol consumption.

The community’s response, particularly the actions of a concerned neighbor who alerted officials underscores the importance of vigilance in looking out for one another, and Malo encouraged the other locals to do the same to the neighbors.(Nexus)
