Former press secretary to President Museveni and a prominent political commentator, has passed away at the age of 60.

His death occurred on Tuesday evening, as confirmed by those close to him.

Mirundi, widely known for his fiery and often controversial political commentary, was a staunch supporter of the National Resistance Movement (NRM). In recent years, he aligned himself with the Patriotic League of Uganda, a civic group led by Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, where he served as the Deputy Spokesperson for the Buganda Region.

The Patriotic League of Uganda expressed their grief in a statement, saying, “It is with profound sorrow that we announce the untimely death of our Deputy Spokesperson for Buganda, Mzee Tamale Mirundi. May his soul rest in peace.”

Earlier this year, Mirundi was diagnosed with multiple health issues, including low blood pressure and kidney-related complications. Despite these challenges, he remained active in the public sphere until his health deteriorated.

Mirundi, known for his fearless approach to political discourse, often spoke of his survival against the odds, having claimed to have survived multiple poisoning attempts. In a recent interview, he stated, “Doctors once gave me three years to live, but with treatment and the protection of my cultural ancestors, I was told by American medical personnel that my organs were intact.”

His passing marks the end of a significant chapter in Uganda’s political landscape. Mirundi’s sharp tongue and unyielding opinions made him a notable figure in the nation’s political debates.
