Police Kira Division have arrested 26 year old Joh Gido Joh, also known as Johnnie, a South Sudanese national, in connection with the rape and murder of a woman identified as Bianca on Thursday, December 28, 2023.

The incident occurred during a confrontation over a phone in a local bar in Janda Zone, Namugongo Division, Kira municipality, Wakiso District.

According to ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Police Spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan revealed that reports indicate that the deceased engaged in a heated altercation with three men, one of whom was a South Sudanese national. This individual had previously been detained on theft charges but was subsequently released on bail.

While two of the suspects remain at large, Owoyesigyire assured the public that the authorities are determined to locate them and ensure they face the full force of the law.

The police spokesperson emphasized that a thorough investigation is underway. The police will also interview witnesses who were present during the incident to gather additional information.

According to Owoyesigyire, preliminary reports suggest that the motive behind this brutal murder may have been related to a new phone Bianca received as a Christmas gift from her sister in the United States.

The body of the deceased was conveyed to Mulago City Mortuary, where a post-mortem examination will be conducted to shed light on the circumstances surrounding her death.

Mutya Michael, the LC1 chairman of the area, confirmed that both the accused and the deceased were local residents. He also provided the police with information that the body was discovered at Sunset Bar.

The Kira police are urging anyone with relevant information regarding the incident to come forward and assist with the investigation. The authorities remain committed to bringing justice to the grieving family and ensuring that those responsible for this heinous crime are held accountable for their actions.
