The Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga has revealed her plans to meet the Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga over the Kabaka’s health.

She disclosed this while meeting the newly elected Kampala Capital City Authority-KCCA councillors at Parliament.

During the meeting, Jeremiah Keeya Mwanje, the Kasubi councillor, who read a statement on behalf of the 41 National Unity Platform-NUP councillors, said they are concerned about the wellbeing of cultural leaders.

He cited the Kabaka Ronald Mutebi of Buganda, who appeared ill during his 66 birthday celebration, saying that the government has remained silent on the matter.

In her response, Kadaga said that she was planning to meet the Katikkiro to understand what is going on in regards to Kabaka’s health.

She however said that parliament can’t issue a statement on the Kabaka’s health because they respect the autonomy of cultural institutions.

Last week, Katikkiro Mayiga said the Kabaka was treating an allergy, which gives him breathing difficulties.
