The Speke Resort Convention Centre in Kampala, Uganda, is set to host a high-level African Union (AU) Extraordinary Summit focused on strengthening the continent’s agricultural sector.

The summit, centred on the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP), will take place from January 9 to 11, 2025.

The event will bring together African heads of state, ministers, agricultural experts, and key stakeholders to address the urgent need for sustainable transformation in Africa’s agrifood systems.

Key objectives of the summit include endorsing the draft Kampala CAADP Declaration and approving the Ten-Year CAADP Strategy and Action Plan (2026–2035).

These frameworks aim to provide a clear vision for modernising agriculture, promoting sustainable economic growth, and achieving shared prosperity across the continent.

With over 1,000 participants expected, the summit will also feature representatives from development partners, civil society, academia, and the media.

Discussions will emphasize practical strategies for addressing challenges such as food insecurity, climate change, and low productivity in agriculture.
