The Chief Magistrate’s Court in Masaka has reissued a criminal summons against Mr. Lujumwa Nathan, the Chief Administrative Officer of Lwengo District.
This follows his failure to appear in court on 14th April 2025 to answer charges related to the concealment of a public record, contrary to Section 45(b) of the Access to Information Act, Cap. 95.
The case, registered as Criminal Case No. 377 of 2025, was brought forward by Volunteer Uganda Extra Limited, a civil society organization known for its robust campaigns against corruption and promotion of legal transparency. The matter is being prosecuted through a private prosecution process.
According to court documents, Mr. Lujumwa Nathan had been summoned to appear before the court on April 14th, but he did not show up.
Consequently, the court granted an extension of eight more days, ordering him to appear on the 22nd of April 2025 at 10:00 a.m., or face further legal consequences. The court emphasized in the criminal summons: “Herein fail not.”
Volunteer Uganda Extra Limited, based in Masaka with its head office in Lwengo District, is a legally registered entity under Ugandan law.
The organization operates with a clear mandate of fighting corruption, protecting human rights, promoting transparency and accountability of public funds, legal protection, and the rule of law.
In recognition of its work, Volunteer Uganda Extra Limited was recently awarded a certificate of appreciation by the Lwengo District Local Government for its outstanding efforts in promoting good governance, the rule of law, and the fight against corruption.
The certificate was signed by Mr. Ibrahim Kitatta Almalik, the Lwengo District Chairperson, and Hon. Ssenozi Peregrino, the District Speaker.
