The President of Uganda Young Democrats (UYD), Ismail Kiirya has asked, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and the armed forces to beef up security in Kampala, especially around public gatherings like churches, mosques, markets, education institutions by availing metal detectors as one of the ways to fight terrorism.

Kiirya while speaking to the press on September 12, 2023, at the party headquarters at City House in Kampala, asked President Museveni to deploy heavily in public gatherings so that security can help identify the terrorists and bombs in time, if any.

“We thank the President for the timely move of speaking to the nation in time after the bomb threats. However, the President’s recommendation of people providing identification when they come to the mosque and churches might not be enough to stop bomb attacks in time, we need metal detectors,” Kiirya said.

He noted that, identity cards can be forged too because those people can also enter the church or mosques disguised as ‘Hajji Kassim’ yet they are rebels, so which isn’t a solution.

On September 7, 2023, President Museveni addressed the nation on the current state of security, and advised that people going to churches and mosques should provide identification. Uganda had just experienced bomb scares which had been stationed at Rubaga Miracle Center Cathedral and others found in Lungujja Zone 8, Nvujju village
