Three Muni University Staff Die In Road Crash

Three staff members of Muni University tragically lost their lives in a road accident that occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning in Nyapolo Village, Alwi Sub-County, Pakwach District.

The deceased have been identified as Rev. Canon Patrick Acema, Chaplain of the Advent of Christ Chapel at Muni University; Washington Opio, Senior Sports Tutor; and Kennedy Acidri, the driver of the vehicle. Two other occupants sustained serious injuries and are receiving medical attention.

According to police, the crash happened at around 1:40 a.m. as the university team was returning from Kampala to Arua on official duty. The accident involved a Toyota Double Cabin pickup belonging to Muni University and a SINO Truck owned by the China 18th Railway Construction Company.

In an official statement, the Vice Chancellor of Muni University, Assoc. Prof. Simon Anguma Katrini, confirmed the tragic news.

“On behalf of the University Council, Senate, Management, Staff and Students, and on my own behalf, I announce with profound sorrow the tragic death of three staff members of Muni University. Burial arrangements will be communicated,” he said.

SP Anguyo Jimmy Bayiga, the West Nile Region Police Spokesperson, expressed condolences to the bereaved families, saying police had launched investigations to establish the cause of the crash.> “We condole with the families of the deceased and pray that the Almighty grants them eternal rest,” he added.

The injured, Oriba Bruno and Enayo Victor, are currently receiving treatment at Pakwach Health Center IV, where the bodies of the deceased were also taken for postmortem examinations.
