Top Story! Toyota Declares PLU’s Unwavering Backing for NRM, Museveni in 2026 Polls

Kampala – The National Vice Chairman of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), Mr. Michael Nuwagira, commonly known as Toyota, has appealed to supporters of the civic organization and admirers of Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba to rally behind President Yoweri Museveni and the National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidates in the run-up to the 2026 General Election.

Mr. Nuwagira made the call during a joint press briefing held yesterday at the NRM secretariat on Kyadondo Road in Kampala, where leaders from both the ruling party and the PLU underscored their commitment to work together in consolidating support for the incumbent president’s re-election bid.

Flanked by the NRM Secretary General, Mr. Richard Todwong, Deputy Secretary General Rose Namayanja Nsereko, and the party’s Director for Finance and Administration, Hajjat Medina Naham, Mr. Nuwagira emphasized that the strength and survival of the NRM largely depends on unity and discipline among its supporters.

“It is our responsibility to ensure that NRM continues to shine. The only way to achieve this is by campaigning for the party and for President Museveni wherever we go,” Mr. Nuwagira told journalists.

The PLU Vice Chairman also urged supporters to turn up in large numbers at Kololo Independence Grounds to celebrate President Museveni’s nomination, while observing guidelines issued by the Electoral Commission and the Uganda Police.

Prominent figures from both organizations attended the meeting, including Mr. Frank Gashumba, the PLU Vice Chairman for Central Region; Kasambya County MP David Kabanda; and Hon. Michael Mawanda, who serves as PLU’s Director for Mobilisation.

In his remarks, Mr. Todwong rallied Ugandans to demonstrate their support for the NRM by attending the nomination ceremony, which he described as a historic moment for the party.

“President Museveni’s nomination is not only a party event but a national one. We call upon our supporters to show up in big numbers to witness and celebrate this milestone,” Mr. Todwong said.

According to the Electoral Commission’s roadmap, President Museveni, who was cleared through the NRM’s internal processes, will be officially nominated on September 23, 2025, ahead of the general elections slated for early 2026.

Both NRM and PLU leaders reiterated that their shared objective is to consolidate the “NRM family” and safeguard the party’s dominance as it prepares for another electoral contest.
