Security personnel shot and killed a local musician in a case of mistaken identity in Nakasongola town council.

Uganda Radio Network [URN] reported that the incident happened on Thursday at 11pm while security operatives hunted a machete-wielding man who hacked four people dead.

Calvin Mutegesi also known as Sida Man and a resident of Kansirye village succumbed to gunshot wounds at Bombo Military hospital Friday.

Caroline Akoth, the Savannah Regional Police Commander, told URN that when police officers stopped Mutegesi during security patrol, he attempted to run which prompted the officers to shoot at him.

Akoth said Mutegesi was rushed to Bombo Military Hospital where he died on Friday due to multiple wounds.

Police spokesperson, CP Fred Enanga, said they have started the hunt for the murderer who has terrorised the district with his killing spree.

“We meanwhile, regret the death of Mutegesi Calvin, a 29 year old, male adult, and resident of Nakasongola, after he was caught by stray bullets, during the operation,” Enanga said.

He added: “He was rushed to Nakasongola Military Hospital but succumbed to the injuries. We are investigating the incident and also reached out to the family of the deceased.”

On Thursday, he attacked Wabigalo trading centre along Kampala-Gulu highway and hacked four people dead.

The victims were identified as Lozio Matovu (90), Judith Odur (38), Amos Sekanja (7) and another identified only as Mawanda aged around 10.

Enanga said in a press statement said that Mutegesi, 29, was caught by stray bullets during the operation.

The musician was supposed to perform on December 14 at a show at Rhino Hotel in Nakasongola, according to URN.
