UK Envoy Praises Military Training Ties With Uganda

The United Kingdom (UK) High Commissioner to Uganda, H.E. Lisa Chesney, has underscored the significance of the enduring relationship between the United Kingdom and Uganda, citing military training at the prestigious Sandhurst Academy as a cornerstone of this partnership.

Speaking during a ceremony to celebrate the birthday of King Charles III, H.E. Chesney expressed gratitude for the warm reception she has experienced since taking up her post in Uganda. She described the welcome as one of the most heartfelt in her diplomatic career.

Highlighting the Sandhurst military training program, the High Commissioner noted its role in strengthening ties between the two nations. She commended Ugandan officers who have trained at Sandhurst, including the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, who was a guest at the event.

The celebration, held at the High Commissioner’s residence in Nakasero, brought together an array of prominent figures, including government ministers, senior military officials, diplomats, and civil society leaders.

H.E. Chesney emphasized that the UK-Uganda partnership is rooted in mutual respect and collaboration. She reiterated the UK’s commitment to supporting Uganda’s development priorities, reflecting the shared goals of the two countries.

The occasion also served to reaffirm the historical ties between Uganda and the UK, which continue to evolve through cooperation in various sectors, including defense, governance, and development.
