UMSC General Assembly Members Conclude Two-day Induction Exercise

The Uganda Muslim Supreme Council – UMSC has successfully concluded a two day induction exercise of the Honourable Members of the 8th General Assembly drawn from Muslim Districts in Kampala, East Buganda and West Buganda Muslim regions.

We’ve learnt that also in attendance were the Executive Members from the selected regions that is; Hon. Safina Sophia Kenyangi National Chairperson, Muslim Women Council, the Women Representatives for East and west Buganda, Hon. Habib Mustafa, the National Chairperson for Muslim Youth Council, Youth Representatives for West Buganda and Kampala regions, Regional Assistants to the Mufti, Members of the Majlis Al Ulama, District Kadhis and Members of the UMSC National Management Committee.

Zziwa Ashiraf the UMSC Spokesperson says a similar exercise was held recently for Honourable Members from West Nile, Northern, North- Eastern, Eastern and Busoga Muslim regions in Lira City.

He added that the well attended induction Meeting for Buganda region was held in the Library at the UMSC Headquarters on June, 16th- 17th 2023. It was officially opened by His Eminence Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, the Mufti of Uganda and was closed by the UMSC National Chairperson, Prof. Dr. Muhammadi Lubega.

“The duo urged Members to prioritize unity, brotherhood, Constitutionalism, and mobilize their electorate towards development and social transformation programs,” said Zziwa.

Mr. Zziwa further added participants were taken through various topics including the UMSC Strategic Plan 2023-2028 and Regional Contextualization delivered by Prof. Dr Muhammadi Lubega, Conflict Resolution & Management as a tool for cohesion amongst Muslims by Dr. Isa Kawalya, a Specialist in areas of Peace & Conflict Management and Senior Lecturer at Islamic University in Uganda- IUIU, & Islamic Call University College-ICUC), Opportunities & challenges in the Hass Avocado, Cashew nuts, Macadamia Production, presented by Hajjat Fatuma Grace Kazigati, an Agribusiness Dev’t Specialist who represented Dr. Samuel Mugasi, the Executive Director- NAADS.

He adds that Mr. Edward Lutaakome from Uganda Coffee Development Authority discussed Opportunities in the Coffee Value Chain, Hon. Abdul Nasir, a senior lecturer at Uganda Management Institute discussed the UMSC Constitution, Mission, Functions, & Culture while Hon. Ali Aluma, the UMSC Secretary General discussed the Current Finance, Income & Expenditure of the UMSC.

The meeting for Hon Members of General Assembly drawn from Ankole-Kigezi and Bunyoro- Toro Muslim regions is scheduled next week in Kasese Municipality.
