Why Dead Year? Lectures Are Kicking Off On Monday 4th October – Victoria University

Uganda’s most innovative and world-class higher institution of learning, Victoria University (VU) has announced that on October 4th, 2021 will resume the academic year 2021/2022 with two weeks of Virtual Orientation training.

This has been unveiled via a statement issued by the University Academic Registrar who says; “In reference to our earlier communication dated 4th September 2021, about the commencement of the Academic Year 2021/2022, you are informed that the University shall resume online learning on Monday, October 4h 2021, with two weeks of Virtual Orientation training.”

The Statement further notes that during orientation, students will get an opportunity to be introduced to Victoria University, the various faculties and the Online Learning Management System (VClass learning portal).

The University has also reminded students that it will continue to conduct and deliver online learning until the government fully opens up all learning institutions. It is worth noting that Victoria University recently implemented the best Emergency Online and Distance Education Learning system, as rated by the National Council for Higher Education. (NCHE).

According to the program, starting Monday 20h September 2021, the University will reach out to all new students for guidance on how to activate their official students’ emails, which shall be used to access their online learning portal (VCIass).

“We request you to acquire essential study tools to aid your online learning, such as laptops, tablet computers, desktop computers and so on,” reads the statement adding;

“To support effective online learning. we shall provide free educational data to all virtual learners. You will need to submit your Name, Registration Number and Airtel Phone Number to activate this process before the Orientation session.”

Equipped with dozens of courses that are at an international level, Victoria University in the same NCHE letter was informed that after the COVID-19 lockdown has eased, “it will no longer be tenable to run the Emergency ODeL system instead Institutions shall be required to apply for the implementation of ODeL methodologies using the minimum standards as approved by the National Council for Higher Education.”

The University has since reacted to the NCHE letter, “Victoria University Keeps Winning We are the only university in Uganda that implemented online classes and exams during the lockdown.
